   Be The Media
In 1988 Noam Chomsky and Edward S. Herman published Manufacturing Consent which illustrated in undeniable detail how media moguls defend the economic, social, and political agendas of privileged elites. The picture they painted was bleak and dark, but today, light from media savvy citizens strikes the canvas with diverse, copyleft content, low-tech and Do It Yourself (DIY) solutions, and blistering global growth.

"Be the Media" feels much less theoretical after you personally post a photo or audio clip to your local Independent Media Center's (IMC) open publishing newswire.

The Media Democracy movement faces broad oposition from established government and private sector players, but given the production-quality independent media available today (tv [broadcast | internet], satellite, radio, internet, print), and the falling costs of used DIY equipment, the future for media diversity looks bright.

So write up an Op-Ed article on issue you feel strongly about or do some research and write a report. Ask your neighboors about your community, report on a city council meeting, write an article. Photograph problems and solutions, videotape a concert or a police action. Start a weblog in which to publish your work, or post it here, here, here, here, here, or here. -- Be the Media.
